Episode 50 – Facebook Ads Special Categories, What Are They?

Author Jon Quinton 2 min read time

Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Marketing Freaks podcast!

In this episode I grab a drink with Cat and talk about Facebook Ads special categories, what they mean for advertisers and what to do if you are advertising within one of these spaces.

As always, I hope this episode is useful and if you find it helpful please do subscribe for more:

So what exactly are special ad categories? Essentially, if you are advertising in any of the following ad categories then you’re going to end up having to deal with them:

  • Politics, Social Issues and Elections
  • Jobs & Employment
  • Housing
  • Credit

In many circumstances the above are relatively clear cut, however quite a few advertisers who are working on the fringe of the above suddenly find themselves having to unexpectedly deal with special ad categories.

When this happens the warning signs are usually a string of ad rejections and only when questioned via support do you know that you need approval for a special category. This can be confusing!

Within the episode we go through a set of advice and recommendations, the big one being if you think you may end up needing approval for the above categories, it’s always best to get it in advance rather than acting reactively and suffering from delays.

Really hope you enjoy this episode and as always, you can view the full episode on YouTube also.

What this episode covers:

  • What are special ad categories on Facebook?
  • What does the approval process look like?
