Hi everyone and welcome to our CMO series on the podcast!
It’s not uncommon for people working in marketing, and particularly those new to the field, to be unaware of how marketing is managed at a board level. Clearly this is going to be different in every organisation, but there are absolutely some core elements that remain consistent.
Why is it helpful to understand this? Well, if you’re looking for buy-in to get your ideas over the line, if you need more budget, if you want to expand your team…you’re going to know how to communicate with your CMO.
To help with the challenge, I enlisted Lauri Joffe (previous podcast guest) to do a three part series to cover many different aspects of managing marketing through the eyes of a CMO.
Within these three episodes we’ll be cramming in the advice and covering off the following topics:
- What are the biggest differences in how a CMO views marketing, to someone who’s perhaps more of a practitioner?
- As a CMO, what tend to be your biggest priorities?
- What are the biggest challenges for CMOs?
- How to approach financial planning for marketing
- Forecasting – it’s hard to get right, so how do you budget? What’s the process?
- Setting targets – being realistic vs. being ambitious
- The biggest issues when communicating marketing at the most senior level in a business
- Building a business case – what do you look for and how should people go about doing this
- Advice for anyone who needs to report on marketing at C-level
As we go through the week, all three episodes will be added in below.
